On September 27, 2013, more than 300 volunteers from ES3, Bring on Play, the City of York, organizers from KaBOOM!, and residents
of the York community joined forces to build a new playground at Yorktown Park. The new playground design was based on drawings created by children who
participated in a Design Day event in August. The new playground provides more than 1,400 children in the York community with a safe place to play. This
is the first KaBOOM! project completed in York and is one of more than 150 KaBOOM! projects completed in 2013 within the United States. KaBOOM! works with
communities in an effort to fulfill its vision of a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
In addition to building a new play structure, volunteers resurfaced the basketball court, and built benches, shade structures, and a raised-bed community garden.
