In 1949, the Adelphia Club transformed a city dump into a ballpark honoring east-end athlete Dennis Allen, who was scouted by the major leagues. Dennis Allen was killed while serving our country during WWII and therefore, on July 26, 1949, United States veterans dedicated the park as Allen Memorial Park. In 2002, the York Rotary Club expanded the park by adding more ball fields.
In September, 2010, Allen Park was renovated by Bring On Play and the City of York. Volunteers built brightly colored toddler and youth play structures to accommodate children of all ages! A Tike Track and Picnic Pavilion were also added to provide additional opportunities for fun and fellowship in the park.
