​Play Streets 2013


Play Streets events will take place on closed streets and within city parks during the months of May, June, July and August.  Each event is free of charge and open to all members of the community.  A variety of physical and creativity activities, entertainment, and educational opportunities will be provided during each event.  Examples of activities include:
  • -inflatables such as bounce houses and obstacle courses
  • -Imagination playground
  • -NEOS electronic life-sized game
  • -group games such as 3 on 3 basketball, kickball, capture the flag
  • -individual games such as hula hoop and jump rope contests
  • -dancing such as group Zumba, line dancing, dance-offs
  • -arts and crafts
  • -face painting
  • -safety education focusing on fire, bike and commuter tips
  • -health education including health screening opportunties
  • -entertainment such as local live music and dance performances
Community and faith-based organizations, healthcare institutions, private businesses, schools and city government are working together to provide the events:
  • -York City Public Works
  • -York City Bureau of Health
  • -YMCA of York and York County
  • -WellSpan Health Community Health Improvement
  • -York Water Company
  • -SafeKids York County
Play Streets are sponsored by a grant from the Partnership for a Healthier America.  Blue Cross and Blue Shield have generously funded the York Play Streets events along with events in 9 other US cities.

  • June 19, 2013 (Wednesday) 6pm-8:30pm - Kiwanis Lake and Newberry Street
  • July 20, 2013 (Saturday) 12pm - 4pm - Albemarle Park, Albemarle Street
  • August 14, 2013 (Wednesday) 5pm-7:30pm - Campus Park, Duke Street
